Just a week after his dismissal, former Mogadishu Mayor Yusuf Hussein Amir is now facing accusations of deception in a growing political spat.
Amir claimed during a media appearance that his administration had purchased fire trucks to improve the city’s emergency response capacity.
However, his predecessor, Omar Filish Madaale, swiftly refuted the claim, asserting that the fire trucks were in fact procured during his own five-month tenure.
Madaale labeled Amir’s statement a “blatant lie” aimed at whitewashing what critics say was a period of flashy showmanship with little substance.
The controversy has sparked renewed debate over the transparency and credibility of municipal leadership in the capital.
Political observers note that the public fallout underscores deeper tensions within local governance, as rival camps scramble to shape the narrative ahead of expected government reforms.
