Ex-NISA Director Questions Government Strategy on Al-Shabaab

A former Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has questioned the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) strategy on Al-Shabaab.

Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Samboolshe, who led NISA, questioned the counterterrorism strategy of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s administration.

“The key to a successful war against terrorism is to pit the people against terrorists,” said Samboolshe.

“Setbacks and defeats become the norm when the government opts to lead the war,” he added.

He spoke shortly after President Mohamud announced the commencement of the second phase of the war against terrorism.

In the last six months, the government has fought terrorists in different parts of the country to varying degrees of success.

Furthermore, government troops have liberated different parts of the country from Al-Shabaab control.
