Ex-PM Roble Condemns Parliamentary Chaos, Urges Respect for Democratic Norms

In a strongly worded statement, former Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has voiced deep concern over the recent disorder within Somalia’s Federal Parliament, describing it as a “national disgrace.”

Roble condemned the physical assault on Members of Parliament, the use of discriminatory and divisive rhetoric by Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe of the House of the People (Lower House), and reported violations against members of the press covering the incident.

Calling for accountability, Roble stressed that such actions undermine the integrity of the country’s highest legislative institution and erode public trust in the democratic process.

He urged all political leaders and institutions to recommit to the rule of law, uphold the dignity of elected representatives, and guarantee media freedom as a cornerstone of transparency.

Ex-PM Roble uttered these remarks amid growing tensions and political disputes that have raised concerns about the stability and governance of the federal government.
