A former President of the Republic of Somalia has accused outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of “orchestrating coup” against the country’s leaders.
Ex-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said this on February 19 while condemning the attack by government troops against opposition candidates’ security guards.
On Thursday night, government troops clashed with security agents guarding opposition candidates who were at Daljirka Dahson Monument.
The opposition candidates had planned to hold a huge anti-government rally at Mogadishu’s Daljirka Dahson Monument on Friday.
The clashes, which started on Thursday night, continued way into Friday morning.
Government troops were deployed along several roads in the nation’s capital to block them and prevent opposition candidates and their supporters from accessing the site of the rally.
Mohamed said that Farmaajo has failed to lead the country into fresh elections.
Furthermore, he said that Farmaajo is in office illegally after his term expired on February 8 at the stroke of midnight.
Ex-President Mohamud informed legislators and military commanders who have backed Farmaajo since his term expired to be ready to account for their actions.
