Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, a former President of Somalia, claimed that clannism remains a huge threat to federalism.
Ex-President Mohamud made this statement on Sunday, January 3.
He was speaking at a Puntland Development and Research Center conference in Garowe.
The theme of the conference was “Proper Implementation of Federalism in Somalia.”
Specifically, ex-President Mohamud mentioned the formation of the semiautonomous state of Jubbaland and the subsequent deep clan divisions.
Mohamud said that clannism is responsible for the constant political squabbles in the East African nation.
The former President of Somalia said that the country would struggle to implement the new governance structure fully as long as clannism remains a problem.
