Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, a former President of Somalia, has commended Puntland for opting for direct elections.
Ex-President Farmaajo stated that Puntland continues to make huge strides on the democratic front.
He spoke on Wednesday, a day before Puntland holds its local government elections on May 25.
Farmaajo, who rarely saw eye to eye with Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni, lauded the region’s unwavering commitment to direct polls via his official Facebook account.
He urged the rest of the country to follow in Puntland’s steps.
Farmaajo, who was the incumbent, lost the 2022 presidential elections to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in May last year through indirect voting.
