Ex-President Says Meeting with NISA Chief Not Political

Somalia’s ex-President Hassan Sheikh has clarified that the much-reported meeting between him and the Director of National Intelligence Security Agency (NISA) was “not political.”

On Monday, Sheikh met with Fahad Yasin, the current head of NISA, Somalia’s spy agency.

The meeting received widespread coverage from all the media outlets in the East African nation, especially considering its timing.

It comes at a time of heightened political activity in the nation.

For example, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo continues to consult widely on the choice of the next Prime Minister.

Secondly, ex-President Sheikh, as one of the leaders of Forum for National Parties (FNP), an opposition coalition, hailed the recently signed agreement from Dhusamareb III talks.

Consequently, his meeting with one of Farmaajo’s most trusted allies was always bound to attract extra attention.

Nevertheless, Sheikh says the meeting, which took place at his Mogadishu residence, was not political. He said, “We never discussed any political agenda with Yasin.”

Sheikh says he will always welcome any visitor to his home with the utmost respect owing to his position as a national leader.
