Ex-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has stated that the Horn of Africa region would never enjoy peace and stability as long as chaos reigns in Somalia.
Mohamud made these remarks on October 28 in Egypt.
He was speaking at the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies (ACPSS) on Wednesday.
The former president said, “From history, we have learned that the Horn of Africa region could never enjoy peace and stability as long as Somalia remains unstable.”
For this to happen, ex-President Mohamud urged all countries in the region to embrace “equal cooperation and integration.”
Additionally, Mohamud reiterated his belief that Somalia has an important role to play in not only the region but also the Arab world.
Mohamud served as the country’s President from 2012 to 2016.
In his tenure, he repeatedly campaigned for regional cooperation while also elevating Somalia’s reputation and position globally.
