Ex-President Silanyo Dies in Hargeisa

Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud “Silanyo,” former President of Somaliland, has passed away in Hargeisa, as confirmed by his family.

His family confirmed that he passed away in the Somaliland capital city on Friday.

Silanyo led Somaliland from 2010 to 2017, a pivotal period in its development and quest for international recognition.

Before his presidency, Silanyo played a significant role in Somaliland politics.

He served as the Minister of Commerce and held other important cabinet roles.

During the 1980s, he was the Chairman of the Somali National Movement (SNM), a key political and military group advocating for the self-determination of Somaliland.

His leadership and contributions to the region’s political and economic progress have left a lasting legacy.
