Ex-Somalia President Demands Removal of NISA Agents from Electoral Commissions

Hassan Sheikh, a former President of Somalia, has demanded the immediate removal of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) agents from electoral commissions.

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) is under increasing pressure to remove some members of the recently appointed Federal Electoral Commissions.

Reports indicate that the government appointed 25 members into the FECs.

It also appointed another 25 members to the Dispute Resolution Commissions (DRCs).

Ex-President Sheikh termed the inclusion of NISA agents in the commissions as “unlawful” and a “gross violation of the principles of transparency.”

Furthermore, he reminded the government of the importance of a fair and transparent “electoral process.”

He said that the presence of the NISA agents in the commissions could have “devastating consequences” on the outcome of the upcoming elections.
