The Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU) has claimed that the country’s failure to pass the Sexual Offences Bill into law continues to hurt young girls in Somalia.
FESTU issued this statement when reports emerged of the abduction and rape of three young girls in Afgoye.
According to FESTU, the incident remains one of the worst human rights violations against young hapless girls in the country.
Somalia has suffered its share of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) for decades. However, many perpetrators of these heinous crimes walk around free.
The Sexual Offences Bill seeks to address the injustice and unfairness of it all. FESTU has called upon lawmakers to address this issue quickly and protect young girls in the country.
