The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has boosted Somaliland’s fight against the desert locust invasion by donating a new vehicle to the government.
FAO donated the vehicle to the country’s Ministry of Agricultural Development on August 1.
Roble Abdi Muse, the Director General at the agriculture ministry, received the vehicle on behalf of the government.
The handing over ceremony took place at the ministry’s head offices in Hargeisa.
While receiving the car, Muse expressed Somaliland’s gratitude to FAO and other well-wishers for equipping the country with enough resources to wage a successful war against the destructive insects.
He also commended the close working relations between the agriculture ministry and FAO.
“FAO plays a critical role in enabling us to fight the locust invasion across the country,” Muse said while delivering a speech.
Thus far, the United Nations’ body has donated nine vehicles to Somaliland to help the country fight the locust invasion successfully.
Locusts invaded Somaliland, and other countries in the Horn of Africa region, towards the end of 2019.
