Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has opened a new locust monitoring center in Puntland.
The new National Desert Locust Monitoring and Control Center will be based in Qardho.
FAO opened the center in collaboration with the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) on November 3.
Somalia experienced one of the worst locust infestations towards the end of 2019.
The invasion left the country devastated as farmers lost their crops to the ravages of the locusts.
During the launching ceremony, FAO and Somali officials announced that the center would serve as an early warning and surveillance facility for the entire country.
