FAO Says Horn of Africa Region is Free of Locusts

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has now called the Horn of Africa region a “locust-free” zone.

FAO published a report on the current situation in the region.

In its report, it shows that Somalia and other countries in the Horn of Africa region all the way to Yemen are now free of locusts.

The international organization commended the governments and other stakeholders in the region for working hard to eradicate the locust infestation.

Locusts started invading the region towards the end of 2019.

They quickly spread in different countries in the region with Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia being among the hardest hit.

FAO’s report indicates that close to $230.5 million went into locust eradication efforts.
