The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has stepped up the campaign to eradicate desert locusts from Puntland.
FAO announced that it would be carrying out a joint campaign with Somalia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation.
The decision regarding the stepping up of efforts to remove the locusts was announced on Tuesday, December 29.
FAO and the agriculture ministry are to take their ground control operations in Puntland up a notch.
A new generation of desert locusts was noted in Puntland after Cyclone Gati recently made a landfall in the region thus causing massive rainfall and flooding.
Since then, the fresh batch of locusts has caused untold havoc and massive losses in the region.
