Opposition leaders have accused President Mohamed Farmaajo of plotting to derail the Somali elections the country is scheduled to host in late 2020.
According to opposition leaders, Somalia must do everything possible to hold the much-anticipated polls that the country will use to elect a new president.
During the elections, Somalis will also get an opportunity to vote for their preferred parliamentarians.
The country’s Forum for National Parties (FNP), which brings six of the country’s opposition parties, asked the Federal Government of Somalia to demonstrate its commitment to the polls.
On Saturday, FNP accused FGS of “deliberately delaying the implementation of electoral laws that are critical for holding credible elections.”
FNP went further to blame Farmaajo’s administration for interfering with the operations of a parliamentary ad-hoc committee entrusted with the drafting of fresh electoral laws.
