Farmaajo Addresses 75th Session of the UN General Assembly

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo addressed the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible for Farmaajo to travel to the UN headquarters to deliver his speech in person.

Consequently, he addressed UNGA virtually.

In his speech, Farmaajo reiterated the importance of consensus and cooperation in communities around the world today.

He mentioned the myriad of challenges that the world faces socially, economically, and politically from the coronavirus pandemic.

Furthermore, Farmaajo listed the measures his government put in place to mitigate the effects and curb the spread of the deadly disease around the country.

President Farmaajo’s address also listed the achievements that his administration has facilitated in the country.

His proudest achievement is leading the country to the Decision Point, which helped Somalia to not only achieves debt relief but embarks on the path towards attaining debt cancellation.

The president briefed the assembly on the progress his government continues to make in the fight against terrorism with the assistance of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
