Farmaajo and Madobe Blame Each Other for Collapse of FGS-FMS Talks

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland blame each other for the collapse of the elections talks in Dhusamareb.

On February 5, the National Consultative Conference on elections ended without any tangible deal or agreement announced.

According to sources, the talks collapsed because the leadership of FGS and Federal Member States (FMS) could not agree on how to manage the elections for the 16 Members of Parliament (MPs) from Gedo region.

On Friday night, Osman Dubbe, the Minister of Information, said that the federal government had made concessions on all the contentious issues preventing the country from holding elections.

In Dubbe’s view, the other stakeholders are to blame for the collapse of the talks.

On Saturday morning, Madobe accused Farmaajo of blocking any discussion on the Gedo situation. In President Madobe’s view, Farmaajo is intent on ensuring that no elections take place in the region.
