President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has appointed Mahdi Gulaid the new Prime Minister to lead the Federal Government of Somalia.
Gulaid, who has been serving as the immediate Deputy Prime Minister, now takes over from his predecessor Hassan Ali Khaire.
An official statement issued from Villa Somalia confirmed Gulaid’s appointment.
On Saturday, the Federal Parliament passed a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.
Only eight Members of Parliament voiced their opposition to the motion while 170 MPs passed it to send Khaire home.
However, the Villa Somalia statement clarified that Gulaid would be serving in a caretaker capacity until a permanent replacement is appointed.
