The plane carrying President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of Somalia has arrived in Galmudug’s administrative capital of Dhusamareb.
Throughout the week, reports have emerged indicating that President Farmaajo would follow his Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire in traveling to Dhusamareb for talks with regional leaders.
Before today, there had been no official communication regarding his presence at the meeting.
However, the fact that officers from his office and representatives of his security team departed for Dhusamareb yesterday lent credence to those reports.
In the last few moments, President Farmaajo’s plane has touched down at the Dhusamareb airport.
Regional leaders present at the meeting include President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland and President Ahmed Madobe of Jubbaland.
President Mohamed Abdi Ware of HirShabelle, President Abdiaziz Lafta-Gareen of the Southwest State, and President Ahmed Kariye Qoorqoor of Galmudug are also present.
The leaders are expected to meet with the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) Chairperson Halima Ismail Ibrahim too.
At the end of the meeting, the leaders are scheduled to address the public on Somalia’s upcoming elections.
President Farmaajo’s term ends in February 2021 while parliament’s expires on November 2020.
