President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has arrived in Dhusamareb for the second round of talks with leaders from the five Federal Member States (FMS).
Galmudug’s administrative capital of Dhusamareb is the venue of the meeting between Farmaajo’s Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and FMS leaders.
In late July, the leaders met in Dhusamareb for the first round of talks designed to help the country settle on elections timetable and find a suitable electoral model.
As the talks ended, reports from Mogadishu emerged showing that the Lower House voted to pass a motion of no confidence against the immediate former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.
Consequently, some FMS leaders felt that Khaire’s ouster was part of Farmaajo’s machinations to extend his term in office.
While in Dhusamareb, Farmaajo is expected to reach consensus on an all-inclusive polls model.
Somalis have been looking forward to a universal suffrage model where each person has one vote when electing preferred candidate at the national elections or presidential polls.
Reports from Dhusamareb indicate that President Mohamed Abdi Ware of HirShabelle and President Abdiasis Mohamed Lafta-Gareen of the Southwest state have already arrived.
President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor of the Galmudug state is in place to host the leaders.
They are expected to be joined by President Ahmed Madobe of Jubbaland and President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland.
