Farmaajo Claims Ouster of PM Khaire is a Sign of Institutional Independence

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has said that the Federal Parliament’s ouster of Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire is a sign of “institutional independence.”

Farmaajo said this the same day the House of Representatives passed a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Khaire.

He reiterated that the constitution gives him the mandate to accept decisions made by the federal parliament.

Consequently, he has accepted the decision made by 170 Members of Parliament to send the Prime Minister home.

Farmaajo also promised to appoint a new Prime Minister to replace Khaire immediately to give him adequate time to prepare the country for the one-person-one-vote elections.

He further asserted that parliament acted “independently” without any external force or pressure from Villa Somalia or any other office.

The President vowed to continue upholding and advocating for close “cooperation” between various arms of the government.
