President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has commended the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) for speeding up the electoral process.
Farmaajo made these comments on December 6, a day after the controversial Federal Electoral Commission (FEC) elected its Chairman and Vice Chairman.
On December 5, the commission elected Mohamed Hassan as its Chairman while Mowlid Matan is the new Vice Chairman.
A few hours later, Farmaajo issued a statement commending the electoral commission and government for the measures taken thus far.
He issued these comments despite the government’s decision to ignore calls from the opposition to reconstitute the membership of the commission.
Leaders of opposition parties have called the polls body “biased” and “unconstitutional.”
