Farmaajo Encourages Somalis to be Ready for Timely Elections

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of the Federal Government of Somalia has encouraged Somalis to be ready for timely elections.

Farmaajo made the vow during a panel discussion held at Villa Somalia and facilitated by Raas Institute for Policy Studies on Sunday.

While addressing this issue, Farmaajo told the panelists that his administration is focused on “holding elections reflecting the progress the country has made on the democratic front.”

Farmaajo’s commitment comes hours after the Federal Parliament stamped their seal of approval on the newly signed elections agreement.

Furthermore, the president reiterated the commitment of his government to holding people-oriented elections.

“It is time for us to raise accountability levels in our politics, especially now that the people would be picking their preferred representatives directly,” President Farmaajo said.

He also urged Somalis to be ready for one-person-one-vote elections, which prevent interference by foreigners, corruption, and political instability.
