President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has hired a top American lobby group ahead of his tour of the United States.
Farmaajo expects to travel to the US to speak with senior government officials on the current political situation in Somalia.
The US is one of Somalia’s most important international allies.
Recently, it spoke against the decision by Somalia’s Lower House to extend Farmaajo’s term, which expired this year on February 8, by a further two years.
That decision has placed Farmaajo under immense pressure from various quarters.
Reports from both Mogadishu and New York show that Farmaajo’s team hired the services of LFA Holdings, a New Jersey-based lobby group.
The reports indicate that he hired LFA Holdings last month.
He expects LFA Holdings to help prepare his trip to the US soon.
This was revealed after LFA Holdings filed a report with the US Department of Justice.
Luis Aleman, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LFA Holdings, signed a letter of agreement to that effect with Ali Sharif Ahmed, Somalia’s Ambassador to the US.
