An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasted through Wanlaweyn on April 25 killing one person in the process.
Reports from the region indicate that a local administrative officer was killed in the landmine explosion.
Two other officers working with the local administration were injured in the attack.
Sources indicated that the landmine had been planted near the home of the local area chief, Hassan Gud’ur.
The area chief died on the spot.
Later in the day, Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack through a notice posted on one of its affiliate websites.
