President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of Somalia held talks with General Birhanu Jula Gelalcha, the Chief of Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) on January 15.
The meeting between Farmaajo and Gen. Gelalcha took place in Mogadishu.
According to sources, the meeting took place when Gen. Gelalcha and a delegation comprising senior officers from the Ethiopian government visited Somalia secretly on Friday.
Shimelis Abdisa, the President of Oromia, also accompanied Gen. Gelalcha into the meeting with the Somalia leader.
The meeting took place in the midst of an elections quagmire in the Horn of Africa nation.
Somalia was to hold parliamentary elections in December 2020 but this was deferred to January 2021, though it seems unlikely to take place.
Farmaajo, the ENDF delegation, and the Ethiopian government are yet to issue any statement on the reason for holding the meeting.
