Farmaajo in Closed-Door Meeting with Foreign Diplomats

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo spent the whole day in a closed-door meeting with foreign diplomats on January 30.

Sources close to President Farmaajo said that his all-day closed-door meeting with the foreign diplomats took place at Villa Somalia.

Reportedly, the diplomats are making last-ditch efforts to convince Farmaajo to organize a meeting between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).

The diplomats believe that discussions between FGS and FMS provide the best solution for solving the prolonged elections impasse.

Somalia is likely to fail to meet yet another elections deadline.

First, the country was scheduled to hold parliamentary polls in December 2020 before these were postponed to January 2021.

With only one day left to the end of January, the country is unlikely to hold parliamentary polls this month.

Having failed to hold timely parliamentary polls, it seems that the country would struggle to hold presidential elections in February 2021, as scheduled.

Farmaajo’s first term as the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia expires in February 2021.
