President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of the Federal Government of Somalia insists that Somaliland remains part of Somalia’s territory.
On Saturday, Farmaajo clarified this issue during a panel discussion facilitated by the Raas Institute.
When asked about Somaliland, Farmaajo insisted that it remains part of Somalia.
The news is likely to be received with disdain in Hargeisa, which has been seeking increased international recognition.
He mentioned the fact that Somaliland’s quest for international recognition is yet to bear any fruit as proof that it is part of Somalia.
President Farmaajo stated that the “country cannot be divided.”
Somaliland was once part of Somalia before breaking off from the latter in 1991.
Thirty years later, it has not enjoyed the international recognition it craves despite concerted efforts of its leadership.
