Farmaajo Invites FMS Leaders for Talks from April 3

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has invited leaders from Federal Member States (FMS) for a fresh round of talks.

Farmaajo’s office announced that the talks would kick off on April 3 in Mogadishu.

The invitation goes out to FMS leaders who are still in the capital city after the last round of talks collapsed.

The invitation was sent out on Friday, April 2.

Political leaders in Somalia have been unable to reach any sort of agreement on the implementation of the electoral deal signed on September 17, 2020.

The stalemate made it impossible for Somalia to hold parliamentary and presidential polls, which were due on December 2020 and February 2021 respectively.

Representatives of the international community have repeatedly urged Somali leaders to reach an agreement on elections to prevent instability creeping in.

It is not clear whether members of the opposition are expected at the meeting.
