President Mohamed Farmaajo held a meeting with Qin Jian, who is China’s Ambassador to Somalia.
The two leaders, who held their meeting in Mogadishu on Saturday, discussed a wide variety of issues affecting their countries.
After the meeting, the Office of the President released a statement affirming the issues discussed, which included the need for respecting each other’s territorial integrity.
As per the statement, Ambassador Jian expressed China’s displeasure with the growing rapport between Somaliland and Taiwan.
Furthermore, the Chinese Ambassador was quick to reiterate that China abhors Taiwan’s “violation of Somalia’s territorial integrity.”
Earlier this week, Taiwan’s government announced plans with Somaliland to set up representative offices in each other’s territory.
China was quick to condemn the move insisting that no country had the right to interact with Taiwan as a separate or independent nation.
