Farmaajo Reshuffles Military after Short-Lived Mutiny

President Mohamed Farmaajo of Somalia has reshuffled the leadership of the country’s military after a short-lived mutiny.

The mutiny, which took place 48 hours ago, shocked the President.

However, he described the subsequent reshuffle as “normal” rather than a result of the unprecedented mutiny.

The changes, which he announced on Wednesday, mostly affect the Navy and the Infantry force, which protect the country’s land and waters.

In the changes, Brig. Gen. Abdihamid Mohamed Dirir takes over as the new Navy Commander. He is well-known for leading several successful military operations against Al-Shabaab.

Brig. Gen. Abbas Amin Ali becomes the new Infantry Commander taking over from Brig. Gen. Dirir.

Somali National Army (SNA) mostly comprises members of the Infantry team. Most of its members are all over the country trailing and neutralizing Al-Shabaab fighters.

Three days ago, a section of SNA went to the streets to protest delayed payments. The country’s Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Odowaa Yusuf Rageh condemned their action.
