Farmaajo Says Foreigners Responsible for Non-Implementation of September 17 Agreement

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has blamed foreigners over the failure by Somalia to implement the elections agreement signed on September 17, 2020.

Farmaajo made these utterances while addressing the House of Representatives on the collapsed National Consultative Conference in Dhusamareb.

The President was briefing parliament on the conference, which ended on February 5 without any deal signed.

Furthermore, he said that foreign interference is to blame for the country’s inability to hold elections.

Nevertheless, Farmaajo refused to mention the names of any foreign powers responsible for the breakdown in talks and inability to hold elections.

There was drama in parliament when senators were ordered out of the chambers.

Initially, there had been reports that he was to address a joint sitting of both Houses on Saturday a few hours after returning to Mogadishu from Dhusamareb.
