Outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has issued a directive stopping government officers from signing contracts before elections.
Farmaajo issued his decree on August 7.
His decree applies to government institutions and individuals too.
President Farmaajo said that no government institution or officer should sign any agreement touching on the economy, politics, or security until after the elections.
Somalia is currently in an electioneering period. Two of its Federal Member States (FMS) have already held senatorial elections.
Presidential elections are expected in the next few weeks.
In issuing the decree, President Farmaajo said that he was exercising the mandate and powers that the country’s constitution accords him.
With this decree, Farmaajo has stopped the signing of any agreement between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and international organizations or companies.
His decree also suspends all new trade agreements that Somalia signed or was to sign with other countries.
