President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has vowed that Somalia would hold free and credible elections.
Farmaajo made the vow to representatives of the international partners in Somalia.
President Farmaajo’s meeting with the foreign diplomats took place on January 30 at Villa Somalia in Mogadishu.
Following the daylong closed-door meeting with foreign diplomats, Farmaajo assured them that his administration remains committed to holding “free and credible elections.”
A statement from the Office of the President said that he also updated the diplomats on the progress of the preparations his government is making towards the elections.
He briefed the diplomats on the progress the government has made on the political front.
President Farmaajo’s updates touched on the elections agreement signed between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) on September 17, 2020.
He also talked about the laws and procedures governing the upcoming elections that his administration has signed.
Farmaajo assured the diplomats that he would be meeting with FMS leaders in Dhusamareb from February 1-3 in Dhusamareb to discuss elections impasse.
