The meeting between President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of Federal Government of Somalia and leaders from Federal Member States has kicked off in Mogadishu.
Farmaajo’s meeting with the regional leaders was to kick off early last week but failed to do so prompting several delays.
However, reports from the Office of the President indicate that the meeting has commenced.
All the five regional leaders are present at the meeting, which Mayor Omar Filish of Mogadishu is also attending.
President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland, President Abdiaziz Mohamed Lafta-Gareen of the Southwest state, and President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland are present.
President Mohamed Abdi Ware of HirShabelle and President Ahmed Abdi Kariye of Galmudug are all at the meeting too.
The main agenda is the upcoming elections in Somalia.
The East African nation is scheduled to hold parliamentary and local polls later this year before presidential elections follow in early 2021.
