The Federal Elections Implementation Team (FEIT) has published the list of newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators.
Somalia is just from conducting elections for the Senate (Upper House) and House of the People (Lower House) elections.
According to the FEIT, the country now has 245 Lower House MPs.
FEIT’s list also shows that Somalia elected all 54 Senators.
Nevertheless, the FEIT list indicates that 26 Lower House seats are yet to be filled. Additionally, results for four Lower House seats were suspended.
More importantly, the country only elected 64 female MPs.
The 19 percent female representation in the federal parliament falls way short of the envisaged 30 percent, which leaders had agreed upon over the last 2-3 years.
