The Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) has set new dates for the elections of new members of the Senate (Upper House).
Initially, FEIT had set the dates for electing a new team of senators as December 31, 2020 to January 7, 2021.
However, the electoral body announced new dates for the elections on Tuesday, December 29.
As per the announcement, Somalia would now register candidates interested in vying for senatorial seats on January 5-6, 2021.
Afterward, the country would verify the candidates before holding the elections for them on January 7-14, 2021.
FEIT said that the new dates have been made necessary by unavoidable delays.
The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and opposition candidates are in disagreements over several issues.
