The Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) held three-day training for Mogadishu journalists on elections.
FESOJ has organized the training in conjunction with United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).
The training kicks off this week in the nation’s capital.
UNSOM and FESOJ confirmed the critical role that journalists play in any society that is readying up for elections.
In Somalia, the situation is not any different since the country is scheduled to hold local and parliamentary elections in December 2020 before presidential polls follow in February 2021.
The UN-backed training is to equip journalists with skills to report on elections and provide voter education.
Somalia is holding elections at a time when Al-Shabaab attacks seem to be on the increase.
Through this FESOJ and UNSOM training, journalists would be educated on the principles of reporting amid conflict.
Abdirashid Mohamed Hashi, the Director of Communications at the Office of the President, was the highest-ranking representative from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) at the event.
