FESOJ Condemns Detention of Radio Journalist in Mogadishu

The Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) has condemned the decision by the Federal Government of Somalia to arrest a radio journalist in Mogadishu.

On Saturday night, October 17, Abdullahi Kulmiye Addow, was arrested by National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) officers.

Addow works for Radio Kulmiye.

Apparently, he was arrested after interviewing a prominent businessman who recently declared his sympathies for Al-Shabaab.

FESOJ labeled Kulmiye’s arrest as “unacceptable” and a “blatant violation of his constitutional right to freedom of expression.”

Addow’s arrest comes a few months after President Mohamed Farmaajo accused some journalists of links with Al-Shabaab.

In their press statement, FESOJ demanded Kulmiye’s “immediate and unconditional release.”
