Leaders from Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) have been urged to join the ongoing talks on elections.
On March 1, Somalia’s international partners appealed to the leaders to be part of the talks between Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and the opposition.
Prime Minister Roble met with the Council of Presidential Candidates Union on February 25.
Last week’s talks between Roble and opposition candidates were successful.
This week, Roble held a second round of talks with the candidates.
He is expected to hold a follow-up meeting with the opposition candidates again on Thursday this week.
Now, the international partners have urged leaders from the federal government and regional states to participate in the talks too.
According to the partners, the ongoing talks offer Somalia the best chance of implementing the agreement signed on September 17, 2020.
They also cited their belief in the ability of the talks to find solutions for the electoral impasse that has lasted over six months.
