Reports from Villa Somalia show that the meeting between Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States in Mogadishu failed to agree on the role of the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC).
During Wednesday’s meeting, which lasted from dusk to midnight, the leaders ironed out most of their differences. However, the one issue that remained unresolved was the role that NIEC was to play in the upcoming elections.
Multiple sources mentioned that the meeting between President Mohamed Farmaajo of FGS and the regional leaders including Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni, Jubbaland’s President Ahmed Islam Madobe, and Galmudug’s President Ahmed Abdi Karie Qoorqoor made huge progress.
Other leaders at the meeting included President Mohamed Abdi Ware of HirShabelle, President Abdiaziz Mohamed Lafta-Gareen, and Mayor Omar Mohamud Filish have been at the meeting since it kicked off over the weekend.
