The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) troops clashed with those from the Jubbaland region on January 24.

According to reliable sources, the Jubbaland forces started the fight. Afterward, Somali National Army (SNA) troops launched a counter-offensive against their Jubbaland counterparts.
It is not yet clear what caused the clashes.
Nevertheless, Gedo region has been under a cloud of uncertainty for almost a year.
Jubbaland’s President Ahmed Islam Madobe has told the federal government that his region would only take part in the upcoming elections once the Gedo issue is resolved.
