Kenya Defense Force (KDF) sent a team of Special Forces to take control of Mandera Town, which suffered intense battles yesterday.
While that happened, the heavy gunfight pitting Jubaland forces against SNA went on for the better part of Monday.
On Monday, military tankers fired several cylinders. Explosions also rocked Border Point One and Balad-Hawo.
Both sides fought in attempt to stamp their authority. Raw footages made the rounds on multiple social media platforms showing the extent of the fighting.
At Mandera Town, business came to a standstill. The fighting paralyzed medical centers, social amenities, public transport, and education thus forcing schools to close.
The daylong fighting also destroyed Safaricom’s infrastructure in the area thus destabilizing communication.
Meanwhile, the government of President Farmaajo found itself in deep waters when accusations that it is trying to oust Ahmed Madobe, Jubaland’s president, from power.
The relationship between the two leaders has been poor since last month when FGS deployed its troops to Gedo.
Since then, analysts believed that it was only a matter of time before fighting broke out.
