Fifty Percent of Victims of Cyclone Gati in Somalia Need Emergency Shelter

United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that 50 percent of the victims of Cyclone Gati need emergency shelter.

Cyclone Gati made a landfall in Somalia’s Puntland area on November 22.

It left a trail of destruction and nine deaths. Immediately afterward, the area was beset by a combination of strong winds, heavy rainfall, and intense floods.

The result of all that was destruction of homes that left over 20,000 people without any kind of shelter.

Consequently, OCHA asserts that these people need emergency shelter.

Similarly, close to 32,000 need emergency food assistance for several weeks.

Most of the individuals and households that need the emergency shelter and food assistance are in Puntland, which was the worst-affected region.
