Hargeisa, Somaliland — The Embassy of Finland marked the official conclusion of the long-running MIDAFINNSOM project this week in Hargeisa, celebrating 16 years of impactful partnership aimed at strengthening Somaliland’s health sector, with a particular emphasis on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
The project, a flagship initiative under Finland’s development cooperation in the region, has played a pivotal role in enhancing healthcare services, training medical professionals, and improving access to SRHR services across Somaliland.
In a statement, the Finnish Embassy extended heartfelt thanks to all partners involved in the project’s success — especially the Somali diaspora and local health experts, whose continued commitment and contributions were instrumental throughout the initiative’s duration.
“We are proud of what we have achieved together over the past 16 years. The strong collaboration between Finland, Somaliland health institutions, and dedicated individuals has laid a sustainable foundation for future progress,” said the Finnish Embassy in its statement.
The MIDAFINNSOM initiative is widely recognized for its inclusive approach, fostering capacity-building and resilience in a region where healthcare systems continue to face significant challenges.
