Fiqi in Talks with UN Secretary-General

Ahmed Fiqi held a meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General in New York.

Fiqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, held discussions with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday.

Their talks dwelt on Somalia’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC).

Somalia will serve in the UNSC from 2025-2026.

They discussed the tasks that face Somalia between now and next year.

SG Guterres also briefed Fiqi on the responsibilities facing Somalia as a non-permanent member of the UNSC for the next two years.

On his part, Fiqi assured Guterres of the importance that Somalia attaches to its partnership with the UN.

He reiterated Somalia’s commitment to the advancement of the security and peace agenda.
