Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, paid an official visit today to the TURKSOM Military Academy in Mogadishu, reaffirming the growing defence ties between Somalia and Türkiye.
Fiqi was warmly welcomed by Turkish military officers and Somali cadets undergoing training at the academy. He was accompanied by Türkiye’s Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, reflecting the high-level nature of the visit.
During his tour of the facility, the minister commended the ongoing efforts of the Turkish government in training and equipping Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF). He praised the professionalism of the Turkish instructors and the dedication of Somali cadets.
“TURKSOM remains a cornerstone in our journey towards building a capable, self-reliant, and professional national army,” said Fiqi. “This partnership with Türkiye is not only strengthening our security institutions but also advancing our shared commitment to regional stability.”
Established in 2017, the TURKSOM Academy has played a pivotal role in developing Somalia’s military leadership through comprehensive training programs. The visit underscores the deepening strategic defence cooperation between Somalia and Türkiye amid ongoing efforts to stabilize and rebuild the country’s security infrastructure.
