First Somali Police Constable in Leicester Speaks with Parliamentary Committee

Police Constable Adam Ahmed, who is the first Somali PC to serve in Leicester, has spoken with a parliamentary committee to share his experience.

PC Ahmed joined the Leicestershire Police in 2015 as a Special Constable. In 2017, he was promoted to a full-fledged officer.

Currently, he serves as a neighborhood police officer in Spinney Hill.

He made history by becoming the first Somali individual in Leicester to become a police officer.

While speaking with members of the Home Affairs Select Committee, he talked of his experiences growing up in the area where he now works as a PC.

The constable talked of his role with plenty of projects that local mosques have undertaken in the area.

He also expressed great pride at the work he is doing with local mothers to tackle anti-social behaviors among teenagers and ensure that the youth do not move into crime.

Ahmed also discussed issues around recruitment and disproportionality in the police force with the parliamentary committee.
