Five Killed as a Bomb Explodes Outside a Stadium in Central Somalia

Five people were reportedly killed when a bomb exploded outside a packed stadium in Central Somalia on Tuesday.

According to an eyewitness, the bomb seemed to have been buried within the sand-filled stadium earlier.

Later in the afternoon of August 17, it was remotely detonated. At the time, a match pitting two local teams was going on inside the stadium.

Two soldiers who were at the stadium to maintain law and order were killed on the spot.

Witnesses mentioned that the bomb seemed to have been targeted at players and football fans within the stadium.

Five people were killed and at least seven others wounded in the explosion.

The deadly incident took place in Beledweyne, a city inhabited by Djiboutian troops serving as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces.

Moreover, the deadly explosion occurred only two days after Al-Shabaab militants attacked Elite Hotel in Mogadishu and killed at least 16 people.
